New Romantic

by Laura Marling
Laura Marling

Biography:

Laura Marling (born 1st February 1990) is a folk singer/songwriter/guitarist from Eversley, United Kingdom.

She began playing the guitar at the age of five, first being taught the blues by her father in front of the family fire, and has been enthralled by the songs and lyrics of the likes of Neil Young, Bob Dylan, James Taylor and John Mayall ever since. It’s not just the “golden-oldies” that Laura admires; she also harbours a rather deep love for alt.

Capo on third fret.
This is slightly different to another tab on here but i think it sounds a little better
closer to the song.
It won't sound exactly like the way Laura Marling plays it, but it's close enough!

G Em
I know I said I loved you but I'm thinking I was wrong,
G Em
I'm the first to admit that I'm still pretty young,

Am D G
and I never meant to hurt you when I wrote you ten love songs.
G Em
but a guy that I could never get 'cause his girlfriend was pretty fit
G Em
and everyone who knew her loved her so.
Am D
and I made you leave her for me and now I'm feeling pretty mean,
G Am D
but my mind has fucked me over more times than any man could ever know.

Em Am
Maybe I should give up, give in,
D G
give up trying to be thin,
Em Am
give up and turn into my mother,
D G
god knows I love her.

G D Em Am
and I'm sorry to which ever man should meet my sorry state,

G D Em
watch my steady lonesome gait and beware.
G Em
I would never love a man 'cause love and pain go hand in hand
Am D
and I can't do it again.

G Em
So we stayed up late one night to try and get our problems right,
G Em
but I couldn't get into his head just what was going through my mind,
Am G
and I think he knew where I was going 'cause he put Ryan Adams on I
G Em
think he thinks it makes me weak but it only ever makes me strong.
G Em
I've got this friend who sounds just like him,
Am G D
now he's the man I'd leave you for, the man that I just adore like you.

G Em
The same man, he turns to me he said I've got to tell you how I feel,
G Em
if god could make the perfect girl for me it would be you
Am D
and my god told me not tell about how much do you love your fella?"
G Em
I don't know more everyday
Am D G
not in this new romantic way.

Am D Am D
I'll always be your first love, you'll always be my first love.

G D Em Am
and I'm sorry to which ever man should meet my sorry state,

G G Em
watch my steady lonesome gait and beware.
G Em
I would never love a man 'cause love and pain go hand in hand
Am D
and I can't do it again.

G Em
I would never love a man cause I could never hurt a man,

Am D G
not in this new romantic way.
