by Laura Marling
Laura Marling

Biography:

Laura Marling (born 1st February 1990) is a folk singer/songwriter/guitarist from Eversley, United Kingdom.

She began playing the guitar at the age of five, first being taught the blues by her father in front of the family fire, and has been enthralled by the songs and lyrics of the likes of Neil Young, Bob Dylan, James Taylor and John Mayall ever since. It’s not just the “golden-oldies” that Laura admires; she also harbours a rather deep love for alt.

I know I said I loved you but I'm thinking I was wrong
Bm7 Em
I'm the first to admit that I'm still pretty young
Am7 D G
and I never meant to hurt you when I wrote you ten love songs
D11 D7sus2(F#)
but a guy that I could never get 'cause his girlfriend was pretty fit
Bm7 Em
and everyone who knew her loved her so
Am7 D
and I made you leave her for me and now I'm feeling pretty mean
Bm7 Em Am7 D
but my mind has done me over more times than any man could ever know
Em Am
Maybe I should give up give in
D G
give up trying to be thin
Em Am
give up and turn into my mother
D G
god knows I love her

G Em Am D
and I'm sorry to which ever man should meet my sorry state
G Em Am D
watch my steady lonesome gait and beware
D11 D7sus2(F#)
I would never love a man 'cause love and pain go hand in hand
Am D
and I can't do it again

D11 D7sus2(F#)
So we stayed up late one night to try and get our problems right
Bm7 Em
but I couldn't get into his head just what was going through my mind
Am7 D
and I think he knew where I was going 'cause he put Ryan Adams on
D11 D7sus2(F#)
cause I think he thinks it makes me weak but it only ever makes me strong
Bm7 Em
I've got this friend who sounds just like him those Friends
Am D G
now he's the man I'd leave you for the man that I just adore like you
D11 D7sus2(F#)
The same man he turns to me he said I've got to tell you how i feel
Bm7 Em
if god could make the perfect girl for me it would be you
Am7 D
and my god told me not tell about how much do you love your fella
G Em
I don't know more everyday
C D G
not in this new romantic way

I'll always be your first love you'll always be my first love
