by Laura Marling
Laura Marling

Biography:

Laura Marling (born 1st February 1990) is a folk singer/songwriter/guitarist from Eversley, United Kingdom.

She began playing the guitar at the age of five, first being taught the blues by her father in front of the family fire, and has been enthralled by the songs and lyrics of the likes of Neil Young, Bob Dylan, James Taylor and John Mayall ever since. It’s not just the “golden-oldies” that Laura admires; she also harbours a rather deep love for alt.

Intro: D,F#m,G,B

D
You were so smart then
F#m
In your jacket and coat
G D
My softest red scarf was warming your throat
D
Winter was on us
F#m
On the end of my nose
G D
And I never love England more that when covered in snow
D F#m
But a friend of mine said it's good to hear that you believe in love
F#m D
Even if it's set in fear well I'll hold you there brother and
F#m G D
Set you straight I only believe true love is frail and willing to break

chords for verse two same as verse one

I will come back here
Bring me back when I'm old
I want to lay hear forever in the cold

I might be cold but
I'm just skin and bone
And I'll never love England more than when covered in snow

D F#m
I wrote my name in your book only god knows why
F#m
And I bet you that he cracked a smile
D
And I'm clearing all the crap out of my room
F#m
Trying desperately to figure out what it is that makes me blue
D G D
And I wrote an epic letter to you it's pages long but it's too good to be used
F#m
I try to be a girl who likes to be used
D
Well I'm too good for that
F#m D
There's a mind under this hat so I called them all and told 'em I got to move
D F#m
I'm out of love it's too hard
Bm A
I'm on my own it's too hard
D F#m Bm A D F#m Bm A D
Fell like running feel like running running off

chord pattern repeats through next verse

We will keep you we will keep you little one
Safe from harm like an extra arm you are one of us

verse one repats, but the lyrics of last line change:

Winter was on us at the end of my nose
So goodbye old England 'till next year's snow
