by Laura Marling
Laura Marling

Biography:

Laura Marling (born 1st February 1990) is a folk singer/songwriter/guitarist from Eversley, United Kingdom.

She began playing the guitar at the age of five, first being taught the blues by her father in front of the family fire, and has been enthralled by the songs and lyrics of the likes of Neil Young, Bob Dylan, James Taylor and John Mayall ever since. It’s not just the “golden-oldies” that Laura admires; she also harbours a rather deep love for alt.

Verse 1

Am F
If they adorn themselves with crystals

Am
to make them look sharp

F
Sleep with their hand on a pistol

they’re afraid of the dark

G
Well if it wakes you,

Cmaj7
which it has to be known to

F#
don’t be alarmed

F
Darkness can’t do you harm

E
Fear will hurt you

Am * F
And outside, if wind is beating

Am
a tree to a bed

F
Don’t fear that it might be meeting

some untimely end

G
They do what they’re supposed

Cmaj7
to but they have been known

F#
to stand strong and tall

F
weather it all

E
Take what you can

Am F
Never give orders

Am
just to be obeyed

F
Never consider yourself or others

without knowing that you’ll change

G
It may not surprise you

Cmaj7
but pride has been known to

F#
rise up a storm

F
Countless lives lost

E
at the hands of pride and I’ll fall

Chorus :

C Em
Who’ll weep for them?

Sometimes I do

Am *
I do sometimes

C Em
Who’ll weep for them?

Sometimes I do

Am *
I do sometimes

C Em
You can’t see it

it might be behind you

Am *
Keep those eyes wide

C Em
You can’t see it

it might be behind you

Am *
Keep those eyes wide

F E

Verse 2 :
Am F
Don’t be impressed

Am
by strong personalities

F
Sincere words

are rarely sickly sweet

G
But if they fool you

Cmaj7
which they have been known to

F#
Don’t lose your sight

F
know something’s not right

E
and look at the stars

Am F
Be weary of being

Am
given a name

F
if for some reason

you’re not considered the same

G
Once they name you

Cmaj7
they have been known to

F#
lock you in

F
Statistical sin

E
they’d rather ignore

Chorus :

C Em
Who’ll weep for them?

Sometimes I do

Am *
I do sometimes

C Em
Who’ll weep for them?

Sometimes I do

Am *
I do sometimes

C Em
You can’t see it

it might be behind you

You can’t see it

it might be behind you
