Nació y creció en Harlem, Nueva York. Su nombre es una combinación del nombre de su padre; Kenneth, músico de jazz afroamericano y de ferviente religiosidad; y el de su madre Eveliss; una diseñadora de moda de orígenes puertoriqueños-asiáticos.
