Biografia:
Kelis Rogers-Jones, conhecida apenas como Kelis (pronuncia-se "/k?'li?s/;" - calice), nasceu em 21 de agosto de 1979 em Nova Iorque. Seu pai, de descendência afro-americana, era professor universitário e pastor de uma igreja local e sua mãe, descendente de chineses e porto-riquenhos, era designer de moda. Kelis cresceu no bairro do Harlem e desde cedo foi incentivada por sua mãe a se desenvolver artisticamente, cantado no coral da igreja, aprendeu também a tocar violino e piano.
