The Weepies

Biography:

The Weepies is an American indie pop-folk duo of married singer-songwriters Deb Talan and Steve Tannen. The duo began making music together in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 2001.

In 2006, The Weepies big label debut Say I Am You came out on Nettwerk Records. After an initial hard-scrabble tour in their compact car as a duo, Deb Talan & Steve Tannen’s music appeared in more than a dozen TV shows, as well as several major motion pictures.

Their iTunes sales topped the folk charts in eight countries.

[Verse 1]
G C G C
My lover left me, she left me too soon.
G C G C
I shouldn't blame her, for the state of my room.
G C G C
I started stumbling, chasing the bells.
G C G C
The metal straps upon my knees made this sound when I fell
D
You heard those words from your peers
G C G C G C G C
I was just your volunteer.

G C G C
We love uncle Georgie, uncle Georgie's our friend.
G C G C
He spends his life fishing, washes dishes weekends.

And I tried to say something sincere
G C G C G C G C
Sign me up I'll volunteer.

[Verse 3]
G C G C
My Father left us, he left us too soon.

The face of a woman who once was his bride.

G C G C
And a couple of lonely volunteers.

All that he left her was tears
G C G C G C G C G C G C
And a couple of lonely volunteers.

[Verse 4]
G C G C
Now we look for sister Mary, sister Mary's the pale.

She holds her head sometimes and walks close to the rail.

She sings on a Sunday, stands in the stairs.
G C G C
Haunts me at night time when I've forgotten my prayers.
D
We don't see much of her here
G C G C G C G C
That winter-weary volunteer.

Captains need order it helps them stay sane.
G C G C
Plumbers hate slaughter, 'cause it fucks up the drains.

The men here have lost their careers
G C G C G C G C
And they don't talk to volunteers.

How your life cuts me, it cuts to my bone.
