Ernest Tubb

Dont Trifle On Your Sweetheart

by Ernest Tubb
Ernest Tubb

Biography:

Ernest Dale Tubb (February 9, 1914 – September 6, 1984), nicknamed the Texas Troubadour, was an American singer and songwriter and one of the pioneers of country music. His biggest career hit song, "Walking the Floor Over You" (1941), marked the rise of the honky tonk style of music. In 1948, he was the first singer to record a hit version of "Blue Christmas", a song more commonly associated with Elvis Presley and his mid-1950s version. Another well-known Tubb hit was "Waltz Across Texas" (1965)

G D7
Don't trifle on your sweetheart the one who wears your wedding ring

G
Keep in mind the vows you made her should mean more than anything

D7
And the minutes stolen pleasure may break both your hearts into

G
Don't trifle on your sweetheart or she may start cheatin' too

C G
Take the word of one who knows just what a trifling life will do

C
Or you'll be like the wind that blows

A7 D7
And you won't care just why or who

G D7
The minute that you trifle you can never be the same

G
Don't trifle on your sweetheart cause you can't live down the shame

D7
Don't trifle on your sweetheart she's the one who wears your brand

G
And the flappers who may chase you ain't the measure of a man

D7
It's the things you do that matter not the things you think you do

G
Don't trifle on your sweetheart or she may start cheatin' too

C G
Take the word of one who knows of one who's been a trifling man

C A7 D7
You'll end up like some faded rose in some back alley garbage can

G D7
Don't trifle on your sweetheart you'll be sorry if you do

G
If you trifle on your sweetheart she's got the right to trifle too
