Wrinkle Neck Mules

Okeechobee

by Wrinkle Neck Mules
Wrinkle Neck Mules

Biography:

What the hell is a Wrinkle Neck Mule? A sophomoric phallic reference? Too easy. A pack animal used in the Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico to transport opium to America in the early 1900s? History channel worthy, but wrong. A band of five (or four, depending on the wind) from Richmond, Virginia carrying indie-rockish country music about the land? Eureka. Daily double.

Born somewhere on I-64 between Charlottesville and Richmond, Virginia in late 1999

verse 1:

G D C
Looks like it's time to trim the fat
G D C
They're diggin' a hole right through the 'Glades
G D Em C
And by the time that we get through, well I'll have no use for you
G D C
Won't you be so proud of the mess I made

chorus:

G D C
In my sweet sweet sweet Okeechobee
G D C
Runnin' through the shallows with cottonmouth cypress knees
G D C G
Yeah my sweet sweet sweet Okeechobee's callin' me
G D C
With a forearm tan and a bottle that's where I'll be

verse 2:

One time I brought a woman friend home with me
'fore too damn long she couldn't stand the heat and mosquitos
She said I had to choose, bet she never thought she'd lose
But when it comes to the one I love it's plain to see

[chorus]
(It's my...)

verse 3:

Four wheel drive and a three gun rack
Two wide stove in a one room shack
Yeah my paint job's startin' to peel & there's a crack in my windshield
But you can bet each time I leave I'll be lookin' back

chorus w/ changes:

To my sweet sweet sweet Okeechobee
Rollin' blackwater and sawgrass citrus trees
Yeah my sweet sweet sweet Okeechobee's callin' me
With a forearm tan and a bottle that's where I'll be
Yeah you can find me with a forearm tan and a bottle that's where I'll be
Yeah you can find me with a forearm tan and a bottle that's where I'll beeee.
