Wrinkle Neck Mules

Whistlers And Sparklers

by Wrinkle Neck Mules
Wrinkle Neck Mules

Biography:

What the hell is a Wrinkle Neck Mule? A sophomoric phallic reference? Too easy. A pack animal used in the Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico to transport opium to America in the early 1900s? History channel worthy, but wrong. A band of five (or four, depending on the wind) from Richmond, Virginia carrying indie-rockish country music about the land? Eureka. Daily double.

Born somewhere on I-64 between Charlottesville and Richmond, Virginia in late 1999

----------------------------------------------

Standard Tuning

[VERSE 1]

E Bm
All of the shine is gone
A
We drank it all between
E
Barnesville and Gulf Shores
Bm D
The sutures all have dried
A E
The winds at our back and the tangles are untied

[VERSE 2]
E Bm
Well, I hear Porter Wagner
A E
Telling Dolly there’s nothing left to hold onto
Bm D
But I don’t think he’s right
A E
Lace your gloves up and get your ass back in the fight

[CHORUS 1]
E
Fireworks stand
A E
Light a roman candle in my hand
Bm D A E
There’s a fine line between disaster and the best laid plans
Bm D A E
There’s a fine line between disaster and the best laid plans

[VERSE 3]
E Bm
I think we tapped the wellspring
A E
An aqueduct of tangled rhyme
Bm D
Fragments and bits of code
A E
Sitting there on the backseat just waiting to explode

[CHORUS 1]
E
Fireworks stand
A E
Light a roman candle in my hand
Bm D A E
There’s a fine line between disaster and the best laid plans
Bm D A E
There’s a fine line between disaster and the best laid plans

[SOLO]
E A E
Bm D A E
Bm D A E

[VERSE 4]
E Bm
Help me run the wiring
A E
To my bent and defeated heart
Bm D
Countdown and fire away
A E
Snakes and tanks and black cats, sulphur stains on my driveway
Bm D
Countdown and fire away
A
Snakes and tanks and black cats,
A
whistlers and sparklers,
A
smoke bombs and fountains,
A E
killer bees and jumping jacks,
A E
Saturn missiles with report,
A E
glow worms and camellias,
A E
whistlers and sparklers (x3)

[CHORUS 2]
E
Fireworks stand
A E
Light a bottle rocket in my hand
Bm D A E
There’s a fine line between disaster and the best laid plans
Bm D A E
There’s a fine line between disaster and the best laid plans

A E (x4)
