Wrinkle Neck Mules

Bells And Whistles

by Wrinkle Neck Mules
Wrinkle Neck Mules

Biography:

What the hell is a Wrinkle Neck Mule? A sophomoric phallic reference? Too easy. A pack animal used in the Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico to transport opium to America in the early 1900s? History channel worthy, but wrong. A band of five (or four, depending on the wind) from Richmond, Virginia carrying indie-rockish country music about the land? Eureka. Daily double.

Born somewhere on I-64 between Charlottesville and Richmond, Virginia in late 1999

Bells and Whistles - Wrinkle Neck Mules
Track 1 - The Wicks Have Met (2007)
---------------------------------------------------------
Standard tuning; capo 1st fret

During the chorus, at the end of the 1st and 3rd lines,
the D chord is followed by a little fill that can be emulated by:
D D Dsus2 D Dsus4 D Dsus2 D.

I've left this out for the sake of clarity - just playing the D sounds ok, too.

[Intro]
A
C G A

[Verse]
A
Best take the cards out and lay them flat out
C G A
Well, even if that’s not what you want to do
A
I would not stray far from the bed you made
C G A
'cause I imagine you’re going to lie in that one too

[Chorus]
D
I’m alone out here
A
Well, I’m alone out here
D
I’m alone out here
A
Well, I’m alone out here

[Verse]
A
Two ponds staring up like eyes of the earth
C G A
Well, trickery is not necessarily sin
A
Well, August will drain them and April fills them up
C G A
Well, the fish out here are jumping once again

[Chorus]
D
I’m alone out here
A
Well, I’m alone out here
D
I’m alone out here
A
Well, I’m alone out here
F G
Listen to the bells and whistles ring
F G A
Listen to the hawks and doves while they gently sing
F G
Listen to the bells and whistles ring
F G A
Listen to the hawks and doves while they gently sing
A
C G A

[Solo]

[Verse]
A
One from the left and one from the right
C G A
And then I take a flurry with both hands
A
I will not falter, I will not go down
C G A
On the hillside where the violets grow
C G A
Inside of me where the violence grows
C G A
Lord, almighty where does the timing go?

[Chorus]
D
I’m alone out here
A
Well, I’m alone out here
D
I’m alone out here
A
Well, I’m alone out here
F G
Listen to the bells and whistles ring
