Richard Shindell

Parasol Ants

by Richard Shindell
Richard Shindell

Biography:

Richard Shindell (born 3 August 1960, Lakehurst, New Jersey) is an American folk singer. While dividing his time between Buenos Aires, Argentina, and New York's Hudson Valley, Shindell is a writer whose songs paint pictures, tell stories, and juxtapose ideas and images.

Shindell's songwriting often involves storytelling from a first-person point of view: for example, from an INS officer and illegal immigrant in "Fishing", to a World War II soldier in "Sparrows Point"

Richard Shindell - Parasol Ants

CAPO: 1st Fret

INTRO: G C (4x) G

C G
The thief is down
C G
Flat on the ground
C
Face on cement
D C G
A crowd gathers around
C G
His old black coat
C G
Thrown over his head
C
The crowd's all hushed
G D G C G C G
'Cause it looks like he's dead

C G
He's got a limited view
C G
Just one patch of light
C
Shining down
D C G
On a curious sight
C G
Parasol ants
C G
In a perfect line
C
With bright green leaves
D
Raised up high

CHORUS:
C Em C G
He is god and those leaves are sails
Em C D
He is god and his breath is the gale
C Em A
He is god with time to kill
C D N.C.
He is god and he can do just what he will

INTERLUDE: G C (4x) G

C G
God is bored
C G
So it's, what the hell
C
He let's go a gust
D C G
Just to watch them flail
C
The ants go flying
G C G
In disarray
C
Those bright green leaves
D
All blown away

CHORUS:
C Em C G
He is god and those leaves are sails
Em C D
He is god and his breath is the gale
C Em A
He is god with time to kill
C D N.C.
He is god and he can do just what he will

INTERLUDE: G C (4x) G

C G
God's got problems
C G
He's busted but good
C
He ain't nothing
D C G
Just a well-known local hood
C G
The ants keep coming
C G
They pay him no mind
C
They've got leaves to move
D
They just march on by

CHORUS:
C Em C G
He is god and those leaves are sails
Em C D
He is god and his breath is the gale
C Em A
He is god with time to kill
C D N.C.
He is god and he can do just what he will
