Richard Shindell

Easy Street

by Richard Shindell
Richard Shindell

Biography:

Richard Shindell (born 3 August 1960, Lakehurst, New Jersey) is an American folk singer. While dividing his time between Buenos Aires, Argentina, and New York's Hudson Valley, Shindell is a writer whose songs paint pictures, tell stories, and juxtapose ideas and images.

Shindell's songwriting often involves storytelling from a first-person point of view: for example, from an INS officer and illegal immigrant in "Fishing", to a World War II soldier in "Sparrows Point"

Richard Shindell - Easy Street

## NOTE: ~ = walk-down between F and G ##

INTRO: C F C Dm F C G C

F C
We never say goodbye
G C
And I never make you cry
F C
Arm in arm and eye to eye
G F
We watch the years go by
C G Am G-F
You say goodnight and go upstairs
C G F
As I drift off in my easy chair
C G Am-G-F
I know exactly how it ought to be
C G
You and I keeping company

CHORUS:
C F C
Down on easy street
G F ~ G
Never a doubt, never a care
C F Dm F C G C
Down on easy street

F C
Our sins are all forgiven here
G C
We thank god just for being there
F C
For laying nature's bounty bare
G F
When we pushed back the wild frontier
C G Am G-F
Though we are saved by grace alone
C G F
Still we regret that episode
C G Am G-F
When Spanish gold and Indian bones
C G
Were buried under these cobblestones

CHORUS:
C F C
Down on easy street
G F ~ G
Never a doubt, never a care
C F Dm F C G C
Down on easy street

F C
You never told that lie
G C
That I could never let slip by
F C
You never tried so hard to hide
G F
What I never saw with my own eyes
C G Am G-F
We never watched our first blush fade
C G F
From summer glow to winter shade
C G Am G
We never looked for greener days
F C G
And I never wonder if I should've stayed

CHORUS:
C F C
Down on easy street
G F ~ G
Never a doubt, never a care
C F C
Down on easy street
G F ~ G
Never a doubt, never a care
C F Dm F C G F C
Down on easy street
