Richard Shindell

May

by Richard Shindell
Richard Shindell

Biography:

Richard Shindell (born 3 August 1960, Lakehurst, New Jersey) is an American folk singer. While dividing his time between Buenos Aires, Argentina, and New York's Hudson Valley, Shindell is a writer whose songs paint pictures, tell stories, and juxtapose ideas and images.

Shindell's songwriting often involves storytelling from a first-person point of view: for example, from an INS officer and illegal immigrant in "Fishing", to a World War II soldier in "Sparrows Point"

Richard Shindell - May

INTRO: Em G C Em G C

Em C
Listen closely, May
Em C D
This phone may not be safe
C
I have been betrayed
D C
And I must leave today

Em C
Where, I cannot say
Em C
Somewhere far away
D C
Maybe to the States
D C
Where no one knows my face

CHORUS:
G
So May, take care of the kids
D
Tell them I love them
C
I'll send a few quid when I can
G
I know, this is no kind of life
D
But you've got to be strong
C Em G C Em G C
When you're a fugitive's wife

Em C
I'm calling from some booth
Em C
And no, I can't come home
D C
This is not goodbye
D C
I love you more than life

CHORUS:
G
So May, take care of the kids
D
Tell them I love them
C
I'll send a few quid when I can
G
I know, this is no kind of life
D
But you've got to be strong
C Em G C Em G C Em
When you're a fugitive's wife

Something is not right
C D
The streets are much too quiet
C
The shops all locked up tight
D C
There's not one soul in sight

CHORUS:
G
And May, take care of the kids
D
Tell them I love them
C
I'll send a few quid when I can
G
I know, this is no kind of life
D
But you've got to be strong
C
When you're a fugitive's wife
G
And May, they've got me in sight
There's at least twenty-five
It's down to a fight or a flight
May
