Richard Shindell

A Summer Wind A Cotton Dress

by Richard Shindell
Richard Shindell

Biography:

Richard Shindell (born 3 August 1960, Lakehurst, New Jersey) is an American folk singer. While dividing his time between Buenos Aires, Argentina, and New York's Hudson Valley, Shindell is a writer whose songs paint pictures, tell stories, and juxtapose ideas and images.

Shindell's songwriting often involves storytelling from a first-person point of view: for example, from an INS officer and illegal immigrant in "Fishing", to a World War II soldier in "Sparrows Point"

## NOTE: This is a simplified Novice version of the song ##

CAPO: 4th Fret

INTRO: C F (4x) C

I was hers and you were his
The night we met out on that bridge
You knew then, what I know now
F C
That love put down, gets up somehow

F C
The comet came, the comet went
F C
And hid its face in the firmament
F C
I looked once, then turned away
F C F G
When I looked again, it was much too late

CHORUS:
Am F C
A summer wind, a cotton dress
F Am F G
This is how I remember you best
Am F C
A glance held long and a stolen kiss
F Am F C
This is how I remember you best

INTERLUDE: C F (4x) C

F C
The fool I was, is the fool I am
F C
Got a wife, I'm a family man
F C
When I lay in our bed
F C F G
I sometimes dream, I'm holding you instead

CHORUS:
Am F C
A summer wind, a cotton dress
F Am F G
This is how I remember you best
Am F C
A glance held long and a stolen kiss
F Am F C
This is how I remember you best

INSTRUMENTAL: C F C F C F C

The kids are fine
They're six and nine
F C
I think you'd probably like my wife
F C
The kitchen light is much too bright
F C F G
For what I find myself thinking tonight

CHORUS:
Am F C
A summer wind, a cotton dress
F Am F G
This is how I remember you best
Am F C
A glance held long and a stolen kiss
F Am F C
This is how I remember you best
F Am F C
This is how I remember you best
F Am F C
This is how I remember you best
