The Black Seeds fue formada por Barnaby Weir y Daniel Weetman en el año 1998 en la ciudad de Wellington, Nueva Zelanda.
Su música se define como una fusión de dub, funk, afrobeat y un poco de soul que acompañan un reggae roots bien clásico.
