Descubiertos por Dick Geffrey , promotor de otros grupos como Dynasty o Carrie Lucas, el grupo graba su primer single en 1977, "Uptown Festival", con la Motown, llegando al puesto No. 2 de la Billboard. Más tarde, se incorporó al grupo Jody Watley en el año de 1982 y con el álbum "Friends", llegan al puesto No. 1.
