Si a cualquier escucha más o menos versado se le pide que nombre un puñado de autores que se hayan adelantado a su época con obras que escapen a toda etiqueta y que, al mismo tiempo, constituyan pruebas de fuego para lo oídos, tal lista incluiría seguramente a Captain Beefheart, Albert Ayler, Red Crayola, Ornette Coleman, The Velvet Underground y otros, dictados por el gusto personal. A esa lista debe anexarse un grupo que, por su sola intención musical, merece un capítulo aparte: The Shaggs.
