Intro:
Am E
Am E

Am
Sixteen miles from Arkadelphia
E
right near the Texas border
E
traffic was stopped at a railway crossing
E7 Am
I took it to the shoulder
Am
I stoked the kettle I put it to the metal
F
I shook the gravel loose
E
I missed the train but I was happy with
E7 A
a glimpse of the caboose

Chorus:
Am
Cause I like trains
F
I like fast trains
E E7 Am
I like trains that call out through the rain
Am
I like trains
F
I like sad trains
E E7 Am
I like trains that whisper your name

Am
I was born on a greyhound bus
E
My momma was a diesel engine
E
they tried to put me behind the wheel
E7 Am
but I wouldn't let them.
Am
You should have seen the look in their eyes
F
and how it turned to tears
E E7 Am
when I finally told them I wanna be an Engineer

Chorus:
Am
Cause I like trains
F
I like fast trains
E E7 Am
I like trains that call out through the rain
Am
I like trains
F
I like sad trains
E E7 Am
I like trains that whisper your name

F
now you think I've got someone new
G
but darlin' that ain't true
F E E7
I could never love another woman besides you
Am
It's not some dewy-eyed
F
darlin', darlin' that's gonna drive you insane
E
but anymore I'd be listenin' for
E7 Am
the sound of a big ol' train

Chorus:
Am
Cause I like trains
F
I like fast trains
E E7 Am
I like trains that call out through the rain
Am
I like trains
F
I like sad trains
E E7 Am E7 Am
I like trains that whisper your name, whisper your name
