Pearls Before Swine

Riegel

by Pearls Before Swine
Pearls Before Swine

Biography:

Pearls Before Swine was an American psychedelic folk band formed by Tom Rapp in 1965 in Melbourne, Florida, United States. The group signed to ESP Disk and recorded One Nation Underground, a fairly successful release that was followed by the anti-war Balaklava (1968). In the next few years, Rapp often referred onstage, not quite seriously, to the group as "the house band for the SDS" (Students for a Democratic Society). They continued to release albums and to tour until the 1970s

[Intro]
Am Em Am Em

[Verse 1]
Am Em Am Em Am
First I will recall the tale to you…Do you have it right?
Em Am
In 1944 the Riegal, she went down
Em Am Em Am
She went down with 4,000 prisoners asleep on board.

[Verse 2]
Em Am
Well, now, do you, I want to know if you
Am Em
Have it right, is it like the borders of a dream have taken you inside?

[Verse 3]
Am Em Am Em D
The Riegal was a mighty ship, 4,000 prisoners strong
G Em Am D
The captain, he was gallant, or perhaps he was a prisoner, too,
Em Am
Who’s to know for sure who’s who?

[Verse 4]
G Em G Em
One night, it was very late, the Riegal tore its side
G Em Am D
4,000 prisoners and their captain brave were trapped inside

[Verse 5]
Em G
Has there been any news? I feel so out of place
Em G
The captain’s always busy being in a state of grace
Am Em Am
But what I want to know is…Are you listening out there?

[Verse 6]
G Em G Em
The crew they were a sorry lot, blinded by their blood
G Em G Em
The captain, he whispered orders, but you could not hear him above the flood
G Em G Em
And then somebody said, “Well, the ocean is here,” but someone said, “No, there’s more!”
G Em Am D
And the last thing I remember was a broken hand clinging to the captain’s door

[Verse 7]
Em G
Has there been any news? I feel so out of place
Em G
The captain’s always busy being in a state of grace
Am Em Am Em
But what I want to know is…is anybody listening? Is anybody listening?

Am Em
Is anybody listening?
Am Em
Is anybody listening?
Am Em
Is anybody listening??
