[VERSE 1]
N.C.
Listen to the echo on the hill
A
'A comin' your way
D A D E
It's decaying fast, the sound of yesterday
E
Listen to the echo on the hill
A
That lonesome whine
D A D A E
Like the rocks and rails or the crops at harvest time
D A E
Like the swelling rush of water when the creeks are getting high
D A E
Or the wind that comes sweeping up the mountain
G D A E
A familiar craze, a midnight blaze that permeates the horizon

[VERSE 2]
E
Listen to the echo on the hill
A
It's going away

And we'll soon be washed in the light of a new day

Listen to the echo on the hill
A
It never lets down
D A D A E
It's the sound of home as you drift from town to town
D A E
From the cozy little hollow to the big city shore
D A E
You can ramble all around and back again
G D A E
But the vibrations will follow you just like an old long lost friend

E A D A D A E
