Ellis Paul

World Aint Slowing Down

by Ellis Paul
Ellis Paul

Biography:

Ellis Paul (born Paul Plissey, January 14, 1965) is an American singer-songwriter and folk musician. Born in Aroostook County, Maine, Paul is a key figure in what has become known as the Boston school of songwriting, a literate, provocative and urbanely romantic folk-pop style that helped ignite the folk revival of the 1990s. His folk-pop music songs have appeared in movies and on television, and are said to bridge the gap between the modern folk sound and the populist traditions of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger.

G Am C D (C-Em-A5-G)
I found you sitting on a suitcase crying
G Am7 C (C-Em-A5-G)
Beneath my feet, I feel the rumble of a subway train
G Am7 C D (C-Em-A5-G)
I laugh out loud, 'cause it's the one thing I hadn't been trying
G
The train came in breathless,
Am
The passenger’s restless
C D
You say, "Baby, you'll never change"

[Chorus]
G Am7
You gotta get gone, you gotta get going
C D
Hey, the world ain't slowing down for no one
G Am7 C D
It's a carnival calling out to you
G Am7
It sounds like a song, Hits you like scripture
C D
You paint the picture , With colors squeezed from your hand
G
Am7 C
Weren't you the kid who just climbed on the merry-go-round

[Verse 2]
G Am7
Out on the sidewalk, Pigeon's do the moonwalk
C D (C-Em-A5)
I'll be dancing like Fred Astaire
G Am7
The lamppost's are rocking, The whole town's talking
C D (C-Em-A5-G)
Like a fool in a barber's chair
G Am7
And I get the sensation, The joy and frustration
C D (C-Em-A5-G)
Like being caught by a tropical rain
G
Freedom can numb you,
Am7
When there's no place to run to
C D
It feels just like Novo cane

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
G
You packed up all your handbags,
Em
Throwing off the sandbags
C D
I let go and you stepped free
G Am7
I didn't want to loose you , you said you didn't choose to,
C D (C-Em-A5)
It's just how your karma came."
G
But thanks for the vision,
Am7
And the twenty-twenty wisdom
C D
It hit me like a south-bound train

G Am7
You gotta get gone, you gotta get going
C D
Hey, the world ain't slowing down for no one
G Am7 C D
It's a carnival calling out to you (it’s callin’ out to you)
G Am7
It sounds like a song, Hits you like scripture
C D
You paint the picture , With colors squeezed from your hand
G
Am7
Weren't you the kid who just climbed on the merry-go
C
Weren't you the kid
D
Who just climbed on the merry-go--
G
Weren't you the kid
Am7 C
Who just climbed on the merry-go-round
D G Am7
Hey look, the world ain't slowing down
C (C-Em-A5) G
A-Hey, hey, the world ain't slowing down
Am7 C (C-Em-A5) G
Hey, hey, it's a big, blue world
