Ellis Paul

Ellis Paul

Biography:

Ellis Paul (born Paul Plissey, January 14, 1965) is an American singer-songwriter and folk musician. Born in Aroostook County, Maine, Paul is a key figure in what has become known as the Boston school of songwriting, a literate, provocative and urbanely romantic folk-pop style that helped ignite the folk revival of the 1990s. His folk-pop music songs have appeared in movies and on television, and are said to bridge the gap between the modern folk sound and the populist traditions of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger.

C#m B
Don’t slow down
A B
Keep the ceiling spinning around

If you slow you know the truth
A
Will catch you tomorrow
B C#m B
You think the bottom of a glass holds peace.
A B
Whiskey brings you sweet relief.
C#m B
But it’s a liar, it’s a thief.
A B
You can’t drink away your sorrow.

[Chorus]
E B A B E
Was I lied to? Was I lying to myself?
B A B
Now I’m high and wide awake.
E B A B E
I wanted to run to you, so my eyes could see your face.
B A
Someone’s lying in my place
B C#m B A B
So now I’m getting wasted.

[Verse 2]

Last call for drinks
A B
You raise another glass and clink

Clink until the bar stool you sink
A
I’m watching you wallow.

Oh there’s many women here you could meet
A B
If you could stand on your two feet
C#m B
But you’re stumblin’ street to street
A B
Trying to drink away tomorrow

[Chorus]
E B A B E
Was I lied to? Was I lying to myself?
B A B
Now I’m high and wide awake.
E B A B E
I wanted to run to you, so my eyes could see your face.
B A
Someone’s lying in my place
B C#m B A B
So now I’m getting wasted.
