Carbon Leaf

Circus

by Carbon Leaf
Carbon Leaf

Biography:

Some bands insist on dragging listeners into their world, but Richmond, VA's Carbon Leaf works towards a more admirable and considerably more difficult goal – that of letting perfect strangers feel that the band understands their world. Since 1992, the band has succeeded in doing just that -- and on its third Vanguard release, Nothing Rhymes With Woman, has created a soundtrack suitable for multiple worlds.

“For me, this is an album that’s focused on growth and maturity, but it’s not deadly serious,” says front man Barry Privett.

C D Am C G

[Verse 1]
G
Caught in a crowd, it's like a garden
C2 G
And you're turning a phrase
G
How do you unmask from the performance
G
When all the world's a stage?

[Chorus]
C Am Em C G
Is this where, where I belong?
C Am Em C G
Is this where, where I belong?
C Am Em C G
The Sun blinks its briliant eyes
C Am Em C G
On confusion and purpose, it's time

[Verse 2]
G C2 G
We all have our window and vision
C2 G
Yet sometimes I feel so blind
G
Can you explain to me what I see?
G
Can you help me decipher and decide?

[Chorus]
C Am Em C G
Is this where, where I belong?
C Am Em C G
Is this where, where I belong?
C Am Em C G
In the long shadows, in the darkness
C Am Em C G
Of confusion and purpose, it's time
D
To find the place you're broken in
G
And stare into the never-ending sunlight
(alternate bewteen G and C2 in interlude, listsen for chord changes)

[Bridge]
C2 G
I'm so done with this circus
C2 G
Yet I love this escape
C2 G
How do you free yourself and leave the rest
D G
To the beasts in the gilded cage?

[Verse 3]
G C2 G
If every end is a new beginning
C2 G
Is there cause to celebrate?

If any pause for reflection's been lost
D G
In your need to fill all that empty space

[Chorus]
C Am Em C G
Is this where I belong?
C Am Em C G
Is this where, where I belong?
C Am Em C G
The sun blinks its brilliant eyes
C Am Em C G
On confusion and purpose, it's time
C Am Em C G
Is this where, where I belong?
C Am Em C G
Is this where, where I belong?
C Am Em C G
The sun blink your eyes on the dark, broiling skies
C Am Em C G
On confusion and purpose, it's time
D
To find the place you're broken in
G
And stare into the never-ending sunlight
G
Sunlight
G
Sunlight
G
Sunlight
