Turnpike Troubadours

Gone Gone Gone

by Turnpike Troubadours
Turnpike Troubadours

Biography:

Turnpike Troubadours is an American country music group from Oklahoma founded in 2005.

The band, whose name is derived from the bumpy Oklahoma toll-roads and their hard lived folk singing heroes, are proof that isolation can be the mother of originality. Cutting their teeth in roadside dance halls and honky-tonks has made a serious impact on the band’s musical style, which walks the line between Woody Guthrie and Waylon Jennings. “Bossier City,” the band’s debut album, is testament to the small towns in which they were raised.

[Verse 1]
G C G
You had your hands on the wheel
G Am C G
Stood on the street 'neath the telephone lines
G C G
Well you took everything you could steal
G Am C G
You came and you went like a thief in the night

[Chorus]
D G
And I ran for the hills but you couldn't kill me
D C C/B C
But damn you cut close to the bone
C G D Em C
You can call me a fool you can call me alone
G D C
Call me gone, gone, gone
G D Em C
And this heavy old heart is as steady as stone
G D C
Call me gone, gone, gone

[Verse 2]
G C G
Well the sun's gonna rise in the east
G Am C G
And I'm bound to stumble on a Saturday night
G C G
Well passion is painful but it's free
G Am C G
Love is a mean hateful business sometimes

[Chorus]
D G
And I ran for the hills but you couldn't kill me
D C C/B C
But damn you cut close to the bone
C G D Em C
You can call me a fool you can call me alone
G D C
Call me gone, gone, gone
G D Em C
And this heavy old heart is as steady as stone
G D C
Call me gone, gone, gone

[Verse 3]
G C G
I'd throw the horses some feed
G Am C G
Warm my hands up to a hickory fire
G C G
Well I'm hangin' on to the heat
G Am C G
Love is a cold institution sometimes

[Bridge]
Em B7
And I'm all full of guilt and I'm not full of black
C D
For sellin' my soul for a pat on the back

[Chorus]
D G
And I ran for the hills but you couldn't kill me
D C C/B C
But damn you cut close to the bone
C G D Em C
You can call me a fool you can call me alone
G D C
Call me gone, gone, gone
G D Em C
And this heavy old heart is as steady as stone
G D C
Call me gone, gone, gone
G D C
Call me gone gone gone
G D C
Call me, call me gone gone gone
