Turnpike Troubadours

Time Of Day

by Turnpike Troubadours
Turnpike Troubadours

Biography:

Turnpike Troubadours is an American country music group from Oklahoma founded in 2005.

The band, whose name is derived from the bumpy Oklahoma toll-roads and their hard lived folk singing heroes, are proof that isolation can be the mother of originality. Cutting their teeth in roadside dance halls and honky-tonks has made a serious impact on the band’s musical style, which walks the line between Woody Guthrie and Waylon Jennings. “Bossier City,” the band’s debut album, is testament to the small towns in which they were raised.

[Verse 1]
D E G
Hillbilly girl just as sweet as wine
D
Grew up in a thicket like a muskadine
E Em
Said you'd get a little touch of that holy ghost
G D
See a catfish head on a corner post

[Chorus]
D E G
Well I make my hay in the sunshine honey
D
Aint nothin' like you ever come my way
E G
Well I give you every bit of my spending money
D
Give me just a minute of your time of day

[Instrumental]
D Em G D

[Verse 2]
D E Em G
Well I never go and fall in love to quick (never have and never will now)
D
Well that's the kinda liquor that'll make a man sick
E G
You try to fool me into thinking that you're so refined
D
But you're the kind of liquor to make a man go stone blind

[Chorus]
D E G
Well I make my hay in the sunshine honey
D
Aint nothin' like you ever come my way
E G
Well I give you every bit of my spending money
D
Give me just a minute of your time of day

[Bridge]
E G D E
Got a head full of whiskey, you know I gotta belly full of crow
G A
You know if you're coming with me, little mama better let me know

[Chorus]
D E G
Well I make my hay in the sunshine honey
D
Aint nothin' like you ever come my way
E G
Well I give you every bit of my spending money
D
Give me just a minute of your time of day

D E G
Well I make my hay in the sunshine honey
D
Aint nothin' like you ever come my way
E G
Well I give you every bit of my spending money
D
Give me just a minute of your time of day
