Turnpike Troubadours

Diamonds And Gasoline

by Turnpike Troubadours
Turnpike Troubadours

Biography:

Turnpike Troubadours is an American country music group from Oklahoma founded in 2005.

The band, whose name is derived from the bumpy Oklahoma toll-roads and their hard lived folk singing heroes, are proof that isolation can be the mother of originality. Cutting their teeth in roadside dance halls and honky-tonks has made a serious impact on the band’s musical style, which walks the line between Woody Guthrie and Waylon Jennings. “Bossier City,” the band’s debut album, is testament to the small towns in which they were raised.

Four years of hard work!

This month of May we celebrated four years on the air. We continue working on the dissemination of this wonderful instrument, thank you for participating in our story!

I pulled lyrics straight from CowboyLyrics.com and I'm pretty sure they're wrong in a
few spots, but I left em as is.

There are 2 or 3 guitars, I only got 1. Get creative to fill in the rest, that's what
music is all about.

He finger picks these chords; he uses the very common walk down from C to Am almost
every time, it's easy to hear.

Standard Tuning; Felker has a high voice so they capo almost everything, but I don't
have one with me right now. Capo it to match your vocal range. Corrections to the chords
are welcome.

[Intro]

(first half of verse, then second half of chorus)

[Verse 1]

C B/C Am
Undercover
F C
And blame it on the season
C B/C Am
It ain't no kinda reason baby
F G
Why come and go

C Am
Had a Lover
F C
She felt as good as trees
C Am
And you can ask her if its pleasing
F C
You can ask the wind to blow

[Chorus]

G
And I would buy for you a diamond
F C
Or myself some gasoline
G
If I can't afford you darling
F C
Then I can't afford to dream
F C
And is it time I should be moving
F Am
Is it time I settle down
C Am F C
Will I sit still or will I feel the wheels a spinning round

[Verse 2]
(same as verse 1 chords)

Well I ain't the brightest
Bird that ever flew
I'm just someone you knew
A road you travelled on

All the colors
They shine and fade away
Well they're just like News Years Day
They're here and then they're gone

[Chorus]

G
And I would buy for you a diamond
F C
Or myself some gasoline
G
If I can't afford you darling
F C
Then I can't afford to dream
F C
And is it time I should be moving
F Am
Is it time I settle down
C Am F C
Will I sit still or will I feel the wheels a spinning round

[Instrumental]

(same as Chorus)

[Verse 3]
(same as verse 1 chords)

Lord I love you
I wish you only knew
Well I wish you had a clue
I wish you had a clue you know

But I'm stuck here in Tulsa
With my Oklahoma blues
With a pair of concrete shoes
That got me sinking pretty low

[Chorus]

G
And I would buy for you a diamond
F C
Or myself some gasoline
G
If I can't afford you darling
F C
Then I can't afford to dream
F C
And is it time I should be moving
F Am
Is it time I settle down
C Am F C
Will I sit still or will I feel the wheels a spinning round
The wheels
A spinning
