The Flatlanders

Wishing For A Rainbow

by The Flatlanders
The Flatlanders

Biography:

The Flatlanders is an American country band from Lubbock, Texas, founded in 1972 by Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock.

The fact that all that these Texas music titans, on their first go-round as The Flatlanders in 1972, were completely rejected by the country music establishment is surprising in retrospect but, ultimately, poetic. Standing at the crossroad in the rain
D
I been here before, I can't complain
A
Must be something in the Book of Revelation
D
That keeps on messing with my destination

D A
That big old city nearly did me in
D
I got my doubts if I'll go there again
A
Turning back could turn into a heartbreak
D
Tonight I just need shelter from a heartache

[Chorus]
D G
Wishing for a rainbow
D A
Listen to the wind blow
D G
Wondering how can love grow
A D
Wishing for a rainbow

D A
I wonder if she found her way to Denver
D
If she still needs the love I said I'd send her
A
Like roses untended may grow withered
D
Love letters in my heart go undelivered

[Chorus]

Break: D G D A D G A D
A
Shattered glass all scattered ?cross the floor
D
Some fellow left his suitcase by the door
A
I'd like to think I left it all behind me
D
And know for sure the past will never find me

D A
There are some who sanctify revenge
D
Time and life will leave them on the fringe
A
And some to the end will carry grudges
D
Time and life and death will be their judges

Chorus repeat twice
