Filth And Squalor

by The Dear Hunter
The Dear Hunter

Biography:

The Dear Hunter is an American progressive rock band originating in Providence, Rhode Island. It began as a side project of Casey Crescenzo when he was a member of The Receiving End of Sirens, before becoming his main band in 2006. The band's sound features a wide variety of instruments and styles.

Most of the band's albums, starting with their 2006 debut album Act I: The Lake South, the River North, are concept albums and a part of a common storyline, planned to conclude with a sixth album.

[Verse]
Bm A
Somewhere there's a choice being made
Bm A A/F# G
For the mass by the will of a broken few
F#m
Guided by the hand of the guilty
G A
Praised as a cure for a curse
Bm A
When really this is all catastrophic
Bm A A/F# G
And we're tethered to the hull of a sinking ship
F#m
Scratching for a breath at the surface
G A
Praying for the ropes to slip

[Chorus]
Bm A Bm
I always knew that the damned would inherit the earth
G F#m
As soon as they learned to speak
D Em
We would be suffering
Bm A Bm
Sucking on the scraps of a wicked wealth
G F#m D Em
We were bound by need to vicious villainy

[Post-Chorus]
Em7 Bm
Tear it down, start again
Em7 Bm
Erasing every trace so stale scars can mend
G
Then we will sing
Bm G
"The way things used to be"
Bm G
"The way things used to be"
Bm G
"The way things used to be"

[Bridge]
Bm
Tear it down, start again

Bm F Bm F G D G F#m

[Chorus]
Bm A Bm
I always knew that the damned would inherit the earth
G F#m
As soon as they learned to speak
D Em
We would be suffering
Bm A Bm
Sucking on the scraps of a wicked wealth
G F#m D Em
We were bound by need to vicious villainy

Bm A Bm
I always knew that the damned would inherit the earth

As soon as they learned to speak

We would be suffering
