Hotel Womb

by The Church
The Church

Biography:

The Church is an alternative rock band which formed in Sydney, Australia in 1980. Initially linked in with neo-psychedelia acts of the period, their music later became largely defined by the interplay of guitarists Marty Willson-Piper and Peter Koppes coupled with the abstract lyrics of bassist/singer Steve Kilbey. Their debut album, Of Skins and Heart (1981), earned them their first radio hit "The Unguarded Moment". They were originally signed to EMI's Parlophone label

THE CHURCH: “HOTEL WOMB”
Chords by Ney Young

Bm Em D G (2x)
D G C C (2x)

D Am C
Volcano pierce the air, ashes block out the sun
D Am C
Down in the lair, well I met her there with a price for everyone
D Am C
I paid eighty dollars for this wedding ring, I couldn't take it off if I tried
D Am G
And the cactus sure tastes strangely sweet as it goes down inside

Em C G
I'll dream I'm safe in my hotel womb
Em C G
Soft and soul made, it's a wonderful room

D Am C
A sudden voltage in the night, with a rainforest girl
D Am C
As we float downstream to the Amazon River where the black waters swirl
D Am C
I say, why are you people wearing those masks? I say, can we be reconciled?
D Am G
She says the mother of the storm has to roam the sky searching for her child

Em C G
I'll dream I'm safe in my hotel womb
Em C G
Soft and soul made, it's a wonderful room
Em C G
I wish I'm back In my hotel womb
Em C G
Slip through the crack to that wonderful room

A C D F (2x)
Am C D C
A C G F (2x)
G

D Am C
Morning comes at last, and she's lying by my side
D Am C
She's got the face of the widow that keeps following me and the body of my bride
D Am C
I say, why are those buildings swaying like trees? I say, can we stop for a while?
D Am G
She says, can't you hear the city that's hidden in there? It's just another mile

Em C G
I'll dream I'm safe in my hotel womb
Em C G
Soft and soul made, it's a wonderful room
Em C G
I wish I'm back In my hotel womb
Em C G
Slip through the crack to that wonderful room

Em C G G until fade …
