[Intro]
D A D

[Verse 1]
D A
Oh the place where I first saw the light
D
Was a ranch on the desert so dry
A
The love of my song every night
D
Was the howl of some coyote close by

[Verse 2]
Bm A
At ten I was ridin' the range
D
And friends I rarely did see
D#
But it happened that visits I'd often exchanged
A D
With the girl that played injun with me

[Chorus]
G A
Oh the girl that played injun with me
D
Would set my heart dancing with glee
Em
I would ride many miles for one of the smiles
A D
Of the girl that played injun with me

[Verse 3]
A
One twenty we met at a dance
D
It was there I first felt Cupids dart
A
She conquered my heart with a glance
D
And lassoed my wild bronco heart

[Verse 4]
G A
I lived from her then twenty miles
F#m Am D
Now that may seem far I'll agree
G
But t'was there I would journey for one of the smiles
Am D
Of the girl that played injun with me

[Verse 5]
A
How often I'd round up the herd
D
Mount the pinto, the blue, or the roan
Am
And ride like a lone desert bird
D
To the ranch of the girl of my own

[Verse 6]
A
A proud dapple grey she would ride
D
Where the prarie bloom scented the lee
G
And I felt like a hero to ride side by side
A D
Of the girl that played injun with me

[Chorus]
G A
Oh the girl that played injun with me
D
Would set my heart dancing with glee
Em
I would ride many miles for one of the smiles
A D
Of the girl that played injun with me

[Verse 7]
A
One evening I dressed in my best
D
And I saddled my fleet-footed bay
A
The sunset was tinting the west
D
As in rapture I galloped away

[Verse 8]
G A
My goal was the girl of my heart
D
For soon my dear wife she would be
E A
And I knew that I never oh never could part
D
From the girl that played injun with me

[Verse 9]
A
I arrived at her ranch just at nine
D
Could scarcely wait to propose
Bm A
I knew she would vow to be mine
D
Oh but what do you really suppose

[Verse 10]
G A
A dude from the city was there
D
I felt like a burnt hollow tree
Bm
For he sat in the moonlight and on the same chair
A D
With the girl that played injun with me.

[Chorus]
G A
Oh the girl that played injun with me
D
Would set my heart dancing with glee
Em
I would ride many miles for one of the smiles
A D D
Of the girl that played injun with me.
