by Roger Alan Wade
Roger Alan Wade

Biography:

Roger Alan Wade is an American singer-songwriter.

Wade wrote songs for country legends Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, George Jones and Hank Williams Jr. He embarked on a solo career with the promotional assistance of his cousin, actor Johnny Knoxville, who occasionally featured Wade's music on his TV show Jackass. During a 2003 appearance on the Howard Stern radio show, Knoxville promoted his cousin's songs, which were favorably received by Stern and his audience and given frequent airplay thereafter.

One of my favorite tunes from Roger's latest album "Southbound Train"
(Chillicothe is the town in Ohio and the location of Chillicothe Federal Prison)

Intro: D

Verse:
D
Low down in Ohio from the day he was born
G D
Charlie hit that hard road, rollin' like a thunder storm
Trouble as his shadow, larceny in his blood
G D
They slapped him in the castle, for lightin' up some peckerwood
G D
He got eleven twenty-nine the first time, rode it out like a train
A D Cadd9 Bm A
Walked down to the bus line through the Chillicothe rain

Chorus:
G D
Some people stay in hell just because they know the names of the streets
A
Some lay their soul on the anvil, hand 'em the hammer, that's me
D G
Sorry for the trouble, the worry and the pain
D A D
Sorry I never had sense enough to get out of the Chillicothe rain

Verse:
D
He hung around in pool halls, like to never find a job
G D
Finally started bouncin' for some dude, connected with the Steubenville mob
Fell hard for a dancer, she took him for a ride
G D
She coulda cleared him with her answer, she got on the stand and lied
G D
He got ten years for good behavior, ten years and mark of Cain
A D Cadd9 Bm A
The guard hollered "See ya later" through the hard Chillicothe rain

Chorus:
G D
Some people stay in hell just because they know the names of the streets
A
Some lay their soul on the anvil, hand 'em the hammer, that's me
D G
Sorry for the trouble, the worry and the pain
D A D
Sorry I never had sense enough to get out of the Chillicothe rain

Break: Cadd9 Bm A G A D

Verse:
D
Charlie stayed clear of trouble, for a year he walked that line
G D
Tryin' to rebuild from the rubble, set things straight in his mind
One night he got a phone call, said "mom I'll be right back"
G D
She just killed the porch light when she heard sirens down by the tracks
G D
The score he swore he'd settle got him more than a ball and chain
A D Cadd9 Bm A
Got him the Lord's prayer and Satan's chair in the Chillicothe rain

Chorus:
G D
Some people stay in hell just because they know the names of the streets
A
Some lay their soul on the anvil, hand 'em the hammer, that's me
D G
My storm will soon be over when they run lightning through my brain
D A D
By the time you read this I'll be a lily-white mist in the Chillicothe rain
G D A D
By the time you read this I'll be a lily-white mist in the Chillicothe rain
