Mischief Brew

The Barrel

by Mischief Brew
Mischief Brew

Biography:

Mischief Brew was an anarchist folk-punk band. A wicked concoction by Erik Petersen – a musical feast falling somewhere between the categories of pirate punk, Celtic folk, gypsy swing, devilish jazz, American olde-tyme and country. It’s good music to stomp, kick, pogo, jitterbug, waltz, drink, twist and shout to – whether the performance is solo acoustic or with a backing band of accordion, drums, and mandolin.

Erik started making music at a young age

[Verse 1]

You really only need to be playing the D, G, B and e strings in the verses.

D G D G
My candy shop's a factory
D A D
left in the woods to die
D Bm
Beneath this settled dust
D A D
a fertile field of treasure lies.
Bm G
We the scavengers are hunting
Bm G
for the beautiful decay,

[The little bass line at "we the scavengers...", ignore the G over "hunting" if using
this and just keep the Bm chord shape]

A|-2-----0-2-----|
E|---2-3-----2-3-|

[Chorus]
D G
towards the bottom of the barrel,
D A
at the market for the fleas,
G Bm
stale boxcars on their railroads
G A Em
won over by the weeds.
D G
Raid the scrapyard like a garden,
D A
wring life from rusty bones.
G Bm
My candy shop is a vacant lot
G A D
where anything may grow.
[Strumming]

[Verse 2]

D G D G
Weeping clowns with cracklin' brows
D A D
piled in the old arcade.
D Bm
Now the children are all workers,
D A D
still dreaming about play.
Bm G
While the freaks stomp through the wasteland
Bm G
pulling flowers from the graves.

[Chorus]

D G
towards the bottom of the barrel,
D A
at the market for the fleas,
G Bm
stale boxcars on their railroads
G A Em
won over by the weeds.

Raid the scrapyard like a garden,
D A
wring life from rusty bones.
G Bm
My candy shop is a vacant lot
G A D
where anything may grow.

old mills and broken glass.

tree winding through the cab.

From the bottom of the barrel,
D A
here's something someone saved,

and we bring it to the table,

wonder what we're gonna make.
D G
Your scrapyard, my garden,
D A
or so the saying goes.
G Bm
You turn water into dead things
G A D
and I'll make the dead things grow
G A D
Make the dead things grow
G A Em
Make the dead things grow
