Mischief Brew

Dirty Pennies

by Mischief Brew
Mischief Brew

Biography:

Mischief Brew was an anarchist folk-punk band. A wicked concoction by Erik Petersen – a musical feast falling somewhere between the categories of pirate punk, Celtic folk, gypsy swing, devilish jazz, American olde-tyme and country. It’s good music to stomp, kick, pogo, jitterbug, waltz, drink, twist and shout to – whether the performance is solo acoustic or with a backing band of accordion, drums, and mandolin.

Erik started making music at a young age

[Verse]

G F#/G Em C G D
In a small town where all knew all, wondered a peasant lady nobody knew,
G F#/G Em C G D
But her only friend was a young boy, brought her hot tea and leftover stew,
G F#/G Em C G D
In those burnin' wintry Decembers, he'd pick dirty pennies up off the cold street,
G F#/G Em D C D G
And while his mother was out Christmas shopping, he'd say, "Come on in, warm your feet."

G, D, C, D - (2X)

G F#/G Em C G D
As long as you share with me stories, so she spoke on the product of war,
G F#/G Em C G D
My mother never knew who she could be, as my father lay drunk on the floor,
G F#/G Em C G D
And she spoke of the cart that she wheeled, had keys with no locks, and guitars with no stings,
G F#/G Em D C D G
and a puzzle that could never be finished, But this is my home, and these broken things are...

boy went on to be taught....
But officer, I fondly remember you..

(Bridge)

G F#/G Em D C D G
They buried something inside of you, Officer, Into your cold heart, dig deep
D G D
And you'll see
C D
that it's me
G D C D
And here I'll be, nothing new to me
G F#/G Em C
I'll be heartbroken and cold, frozen and alone
G F#/G Em C
My coffin was a dumpster and I didn't even know
G F#/G Em C
But while out on the beat, he looked down to the street,
G F#/G Em C
and he saw a dirty penny heads up at hid feet
