Mike Doughty

Biography:

Mike Doughty (born June 10, 1970, in Fort Knox, Kentucky) is an American indie and alternative rock singer-songwriter and author. The former frontman of Soul Coughing from 1992, Doughty began writing solo songs in 1995, but nothing materialized until Soul Coughing broke up in 2000. At this point Doughty began touring solo with his acoustic guitar (after becoming clean and sober). His album Skittish (recorded 1996; released 2000) was finally released, along with the EP Rockity Roll.

G C Am C
Everything is going up
G C Am C
Everything is going as planned
G C Am C
Everything moves along
G C Am C
Everything is fine, fine, fine

G C Am C G C Am C
Well I could be condemned to Hell for every sin, but littering
G C Am C G C Am C
Well I could slip on the East River and crash into Queens all skittering
G C
Well I’ve seen the cops and the robbers
Am C G C Am C
And I know they dance the same, well
G C
I’ve seen a half a zillion girls
Am C G C Am C
And haven’t spoken to a single one of them

Humming part: Em C Am (x4)

G C Am C
Everything is going up
G C Am C
Everything is going as planned
G C Am C
Everything moves along
G C Am C
Everything is fine, fine, fine
Em
Batting in the light
C
My reptile-lidded eyes
Em
And all this strung end to end
C
Is wider than the mind

Humming part: Em C Am (x4)

G C
And what is cool, I’ve been playing
Am C
I have been playing too long
G C
Now my capacities are dwindling
Am C
Till they’re gone, gone, gone
G C Am C
And I said, “Everything is going up
G C Am C
Everything is going as planned
G C Am C
Everything moves along
G C Am C
Everything is fine, fine, fine
Em
Baby can I change my mind?
C
I just want to change my mind
Em
Baby can I change my mind?
C
I just want to change my mind

Humming part: Em C Am (x4)

G C Am C
Everything is going up
G C Am C
Everything is going as planned
