Max Stalling

Topaz City

by Max Stalling
Max Stalling

Biography:

Dallas-based American singer-songwriter Max Stalling never expected to be a full-time country and western musician. After earning his college degree from Texas A&M in food science, he worked for Rainbo Bread and Frito Lay. But following the critically lauded and audience-proven successes of his first three CDs, Comfort In The Curves in 1997, Wide Afternoon in 2000, and One Of The Ways in 2002, he traded his lab coat for cowboy boots and has been touring ever since - performing at more than 150 honky tonks and smoky dancehalls each year.

Topaz City

Capo 3

Bm A D
Here I am on the run again
Bm A D
Hopeful I can still win
Bm A D
I press on and my wheels hum
Bm A D
Taking me home again
Bm A D
Taking me home again

Bm A D
I have run here in triumph
Bm A D
I've run here in retreat
Bm A D
Took my first steps here thankfully
Bm A D
and those days seem so sweet
Bm A D
those days seem so sweet

G D A D
It's all different in so many ways
G D A D
Changes hid in plain sight
G D G D
Busted windows a dusty wind blows
Bm A D
Topaz city tonight
Bm A D
Topaz city tonight

Bm A D
As a child I was child like
Bm A D
In my teens naive
Bm A D
Now as manhood settles in
Bm A D
I still want to believe
Bm A D
I still want to believe

G D A D
It's all different in so many ways
G D A D
Changes hid in plain sight
G D G D
Strangers faces in my old places
Bm A D
Topaz city tonight
Bm A D
Topaz city tonight

G D G D
A weathered awning a old dog yawning
Bm A D
Topaz city tonight

G D G D
A rundown beer joint Stop signs with no point
Bm A D
Topaz city tonight
Bm A D
Topaz city tonight

Solo

Bm A D
As the moon sheds it's shadow
Bm A D
As a snake sheds it's skin
Bm A D
Everything keeps right on changing
Bm A D
Got to learn that again
Bm A D
Got to learn that again

G D A D
It's all different in so many ways
G D A D
Changes hid in plain sight
G D G D
Mom's home place gone that just seems wrong
Bm A D
Topaz city tonight
G D G D
Dad's chair empty that still hits me
Bm A D
Topaz city tonight
Bm A D
Topaz city tonight
