Max Stalling

The Rock Song

by Max Stalling
Max Stalling

Biography:

Dallas-based American singer-songwriter Max Stalling never expected to be a full-time country and western musician. After earning his college degree from Texas A&M in food science, he worked for Rainbo Bread and Frito Lay. But following the critically lauded and audience-proven successes of his first three CDs, Comfort In The Curves in 1997, Wide Afternoon in 2000, and One Of The Ways in 2002, he traded his lab coat for cowboy boots and has been touring ever since - performing at more than 150 honky tonks and smoky dancehalls each year.

Capo 1

intro C Em F G
C Em
Like the rocks that line this road I drive
F G
My words might a have seemed so hard
C Em
But not a one was penned unkind
F G
They were pieces of my heart
C Em
A weak attempt to explain some things
F G
That were weighting on my mind
C Em
Now I find my biggest crime
F G
Was keeping too much too long inside
C Em
Judging by my gauges
F G
I need to think about finding gas
C Em
But my minds been more than full
F G
Thinking of you as the miles role past

Chorus:
F G
I'm rolling down this highway
C G/B Am
Trying to get a handle on events
F G
With one hand on the steering wheel
C G/B Am F G
And one hand on the wind
F G
I hope it all made sense
Em C
I hope it all made some sense

insturmental:
C Em
I thought it would be better
F G
If I'd paint my thoughts with ink
C Em
It seems my mouth don't work so well
F G
Expressing what I think
C Em
Like the gravel on the road
F G
Kicked up by the passing trucks
C Em
Words fly back in my face
F G
And crack the windshields I put up

Repeat chorus:

C Em
I would like nothing better
F G
Than for this to have worked out right
C Em
That's why I left that letter
F G
On your car the other night
C Em
Now it seems so high school
F G
But it seemed so right at the time
C Em
You get a letter on your windshield
F G
I get away behind mine

Repeat chorus:
