Max Stalling

Look In My Past

by Max Stalling
Max Stalling

Biography:

Dallas-based American singer-songwriter Max Stalling never expected to be a full-time country and western musician. After earning his college degree from Texas A&M in food science, he worked for Rainbo Bread and Frito Lay. But following the critically lauded and audience-proven successes of his first three CDs, Comfort In The Curves in 1997, Wide Afternoon in 2000, and One Of The Ways in 2002, he traded his lab coat for cowboy boots and has been touring ever since - performing at more than 150 honky tonks and smoky dancehalls each year.

Look In My Past

[Intro]
E Esus E2 E Esus E2 Esus

[Verse 1]
E Esus E2 Esus
A little blond haired boy comes to mind
E Esus E2 Esus
Though he's someone that I haven't seen in a long, long time
E Esus
He comes in late from his fishing hole
E2 Esus
He missed his supper and now it's cold
E Esus
Mama shakes a spoon as he walks by
E2 Esus E
But he sees a wink in her eye

[Chorus]
E A E
I do not ask you why you look in your mirror
E A (finger-picking #2)
So why do you ask me why I
E
look in my past

[Verse 2]
E Esus E2 Esus

E Esus
The moon is sneaking up over my memory's trees
E2 Esus
Bull bats are skating through that evening breeze
E Esus
An old cow in lowing for her baby somewhere
E2 Esus
The windmill creaks as it chops the air
E Esus
The dogs get kinda restless and trot off in the night
E2 Esus
And two rabbits brave the yard when they're out of sight
E Esus E2
The breeze speaks through the screen and says close your eyes
E2 Esus E
You're up too late for a boy your size

[Chorus]
E A E
I do not ask you why you look in your mirror
E A (finger-picking #2)
So why do you ask me why I
E
look in my past

[Bridge]
E Esus E2 Esus (4x)

E Esus E2 Esus
You say that I dream my life away
E A
And you're partly right and you're partly wrong
E A (finger-picking #2)
But what you can't see is where I've gone

E
In my past

E Esus E2 Esus

E Esus E2 Esus
You say that I dream my life away
E A
And you're partly right and you're partly wrong
E A (finger-picking #2)
But what you can't see is where I've gone and what i own
E
In my past

E Esus E2 Esus

[Outro]
E
A little blond haired boy comes to mind
