[Verse 1]
E C#m A6 E
Walking along on a path in the mountains
E C#m E B7
I saw a bird flying way up high
E C#m A E
Gold were its wings in that time of the morning
D E D A E
Flashing at me as they flew through the sky

[Verse 2]
E C#m A6 E
Its beauty was such that I felt I must have it
E C#m E B7
Chased it all day, nearly entered the night
E C#m A E
Finally angered that I couldn't catch it,
D E D A E
Determined I would stop it in flight

[Verse 3]
E C#m A6 E
I found a stone by a mountain stream flowing
E C#m E B7
Rounded and smooth by the waters fast flow
E C#m A E
It felt so warm and alive in my hand
D E D A E
It was an arrow, my arm was the bow.

[Verse 4]
E C#m A6 E
Then a flashing of wings and a cry pierced the air
E C#m E B7
It fluttered and it fell on the rocks at my feet
E C#m A E
Weeping It left it, the thing that had fallen
D E D A E
Blood stained my hands and tears wet my cheeks

[Verse 5]
E C#m A6 E
Later that night as I lay in my bed
E C#m E B7
I heard the sound of wings in the air
E C#m A E
The room became bathed in a warm golden glow
D E D A E
I opened my eyes and a woman stood there

[Verse 6]
E C#m A6 E
Didn't you know when you hurt me so cruelly
E C#m E B7
I was your love, I was your friend
E C#m A E
You couldn't stand it that I was so free
D E D A E
Now you will never see me again
