Joy Division

Shes Lost Control

by Joy Division
Joy Division

Biography:

Joy Division were a post-punk band formed in 1976 in Salford, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom. Originally named Warsaw, the band consisted of Ian Curtis (vocals and occasional guitar), Bernard Sumner (guitar and keyboards), Peter Hook (bass guitar and backing vocals) and Stephen Morris (drums and percussion). The band dissolved in May 1980 after the suicide of its lead singer, Ian Curtis. Much of their popularity/reputation arguably resulted from frequent playings on air by iconic DJ John Peel

Four years of hard work!

This month of May we celebrated four years on the air. We continue working on the dissemination of this wonderful instrument, thank you for participating in our story!

- To sing with a standalone guitar, including guitar and bass elements.
- Recordings: Peel Session in February 1979, Unknown Pleasures in June 1979, 12” Atmosphere in August 1980
(also in Substance and Heart and Soul). I used the Unknown Pleasures version, and added at the end the
additional verse of the 12” version (note there is some minor lyrics differences in other verses).
- If you manage to sing while playing the main riff, do it in verse 1 and the additional verse.
- Chords can be seen in this 1979 performance: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02rn39z
- Hooky was playing the riffs on its bass starting from the 19th fret on the G string and continuously playing
the open D string. With a guitar you can do the same starting from the 7th fret on G string. But starting
from the 12h fret of the D string sounds better with a guitar, even if you lose the open string.
