John Gorka

Looking Forward

by John Gorka
John Gorka

Biography:

John Gorka (born in July 1958) is an American contemporary folk musician. In 1991, Rolling Stone magazine called him "the pre-eminent male singer-songwriter of what has been dubbed the New Folk Movement.

Gorka was born in Edison, New Jersey. He received his first guitar as a Christmas gift, though Gorka alleges that his older brother stole it from him shortly thereafter. He eventually learned, instead, to play the banjo, and began performing in a folk music group at his church.

John Gorka - Looking Forward

CAPO: 4th Fret

INTRO: C F C F

C
I never cared about the car I'd drive
F
Or the room I'd sleep or the bus I'd drive

Just as long as I could get somewhere
C
And not get hurt I could breathe out there
F C F
I know I could be free out there, could be me, hmm-hmm

C
I never cared about the word 'Prestige'
F
About no inside track or no 'noblesse oblige'

Just as long as I could pay my way
C
And pull my weight and say my say
F C F
As long as I could pay my way, I could say, hmm-hmm

BRIDGE:
Am G
I never had no plans, just dreams and vague directions
F Am G
I would make my stand, in the house of corrections
F Am G
Now I'm a man at last, I see that everything is changing
F Am G
If you wanna hold on fast, the future needs arranging

CHORUS:
F G
Ooh, ooh, ooh
C F G
Now I'm looking forward to you
C Dm G
Now I'm looking forward to you
C
My former view was backward
F Am
My backward view was blue
F G C
Now I'm looking forward to you (Ooh, ooh)
F
Ooh, ooh
C
Ooh, ooh
F
Ooh, ooh

C
Love had a weight, designed to bring me down
F
My hands would sweat and my heart would pound

Now I've learned it and I've turned around
G C
And I hanker for that anchor sound
Dm
I hanker for that anchor sound
C F
Once designed to bring me down, ooh, ooh, ooh

BRIDGE:
Am G
I never had no plans, just dreams and vague directions
F Am G
I would make my stand, in the house of corrections
F Am G
Now I'm a man at last, I see that everything is changing
F Am G
If you wanna hold on fast, the future needs arranging

CHORUS:
F G
Ooh, ooh, ooh
C F G
Now I'm looking forward to you
C Dm G
Now I'm looking forward to you
C
My former view was backward
F Am
My backward view was blue
F G C
Now I'm looking forward to you (Ooh, ooh)
F
Ooh, ooh
C
Ooh, ooh
F
Ooh, ooh

OUTRO: (## repeat and fade to end ##)
C
Ah-ah
F
Ah-ah
C
Ooh, ooh
F
Ooh, ooh
C
Ooh, ooh
F
Ooh, ooh
