FOUNTAIN OF SORROW - Jackson Browne
(Album: Late for the sky)

Intro
|Dm |Bb |Bb |F |
|Dm |C |Bb |F |

Dm C Bb F
Looking through some photographs I found inside a drawer
Dm C Bb F
I was taken by a photograph of you
Dm C Bb F
There were one or two I know that you would have liked a little more
Dm C Bb F
But they didn't show your spirit quite as true

Am F
You were turning 'round to see who was behind you
Am C C/Bb
And I took your childish laughter by surprise
Bb/F Dm
And at the moment that my camera happened to find you
Gm Bb F
There was just a trace of sorrow in your eyes

Dm C Bb F
Now the things that I remember seem so distant and so small
Dm C Bb F
Though it hasn't really been that long a time
Dm C Bb F
What I was seeing wasn't what was happening at all
Dm C Bb F
Although for a while, our path did seem to climb

Am F
But when you see through love's illusions, there lies the danger
Am C C/Bb
And your perfect lover just looks like a perfect fool
Bb/F Dm
So you go running off in search of a perfect stranger
Gm Bb
While the loneliness seems to spring from your life
F C/E Dm C/E Dm C
Like a fountain from a pool

Bb F/C A/C# Dm ( C )
Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light
Bb F/C A/C# Dm ( C )
You've known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight
Bb F/C A/C# Dm
You've had to hide sometimes, but now you're all right
F/C Bb/C
And it's good to see your smiling face tonight

|Bb F/A Bb/G |F Bb/G F/A |Bb F/A Bb/G |F |

Solo:

|Dm |C |Bb |F |
|Dm |C |Bb |F |
|Dm |C |Bb |F |

Dm C Bb F
Now for you and me it may not be that hard to reach our dreams
Dm C Bb F
But that magic feeling never seems to last
Dm C Bb
And while the future's there for anyone to change, still you know it's
F
seems
Dm C Bb F
It would be easier sometimes to change the past

Am F
I'm just one or two years and a couple of changes behind you
Am C C/Bb
In my lessons at love's pain and heartache school
Bb/F Dm
Where if you feel too free and you need something to remind you
Gm Bb
There's this loneliness springing up from your life
F C/E Dm C/E Dm C
Like a fountain from a pool

Bb F/C A/C# Dm ( C )
Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light
Bb F/C A/C# Dm ( C )
You've known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight
Bb F/C A/C# Dm
You've had to hide sometimes but now you're all right
F/C Bb/C
And it's good to see your smiling face tonight

|Bb F/A Bb/G |F Bb/G F/A |Bb F/A Bb/G |F |

Piano interlude:
|Dm |Dm/C |Bb |F |
|F/Eb |F/Eb |Dm |Dm |
|F/Eb |F/Eb |Dm |Dm |
|F/C |F/C |C |C |

Bb F/C A/C# Dm ( C )
Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light
Bb F/C A/C# Dm ( C )
You've known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight
Bb F/C A/C# Dm ( C )
You've had to struggle, you've had to fight
Bb F/C A/C# Dm ( C )
To keep understanding and compassion in sight
Bb F/C A/C# Dm ( C )
You could be laughing at me, you've got the right
Bb F/C A/C# Dm ( C )
But you go on smiling so clear and so bright

|Bb |F/C |A/C# |Dm (C)| rep & fade
