Frog Eyes

The Beat Is Down Four Wretched Singers Beyond Any World That You Have Known

by Frog Eyes
Frog Eyes

Biography:

Frog Eyes is an indie rock band from Victoria (British Columbia, Canada), The quartet is led by singer/guitarist Carey Mercer and is known for their highly idiosyncratic songs, which pit Mercer's unhinged, melodic vocals against a swirling mass of guitar, keyboards, and drums. Drummer Melanie Campbell (also Mercer's wife) notably uses a 'found object' as part of her drums set, the so-called "dinger." This object was only used on their first three albums and has since been disposed of in favour of a normal ride cymbal.

[Verse 1]
G F#
The fiery tendrils of educated blue blood roam
G F#
Plum scented oracle submits her highest sum
G F#
Set out on the escalator and bleed neon-flavored fun
D
Four wretched singers in a cold
Bm
Beyond any world that you've known

[Verse 2]
G F#
Yesterday was Saturn but today the pills are Mars
G F#
A town forsaken for a field of nudie cars
G F#
Moderator moderates a time you fell out of cars
D
And awoke in some field
Bm
Beyond any world that you've known

[Chorus]
Em D G A
Was not the winter, no, nor the fall that breaks me down
F#m G
Alistair is a name for a clown
A Bm
And the beat is down

[Verse 3]
G F#
Was it milk or a wound without a scar
G F#
Scarecrow turns and burns into some bar

Pounds his fist and cries "I know now who you are
D
You are one scented singer in the mist
Bm
Beyond any world that you've known"

[Verse 4]
G F#
The malls up here are few and they are far
G F#
But get there we will my wunder-bar
G F#
Set out on the escalator and you bleed up kind of far
D
Outside of the bounds, of the bounds
Bm
Of any world that you've known

[Chorus]
Em D G A
Was not the winter, no, nor the fall that breaks me down
F#m G
Alistair is a name for a clown
