Frog Eyes

Odettas War

by Frog Eyes
Frog Eyes

Biography:

Frog Eyes is an indie rock band from Victoria (British Columbia, Canada), The quartet is led by singer/guitarist Carey Mercer and is known for their highly idiosyncratic songs, which pit Mercer's unhinged, melodic vocals against a swirling mass of guitar, keyboards, and drums. Drummer Melanie Campbell (also Mercer's wife) notably uses a 'found object' as part of her drums set, the so-called "dinger." This object was only used on their first three albums and has since been disposed of in favour of a normal ride cymbal.

[Intro]

Em A Bm x2

[Verse 1]
Em A Bm
Sail off, sail into the sun, and let everything that pains be undone
Em A Bm
Cast off the fabled leotard, flee the legions of FAKES by the shore
Em A Bm
And darkness and hunger are as maddening as the wild-whipping rains
Em A
And they move from the east, and they crawl to the west,
Bm
They have no patience for the wind nor its crest

[Chorus]
G A Bm
They said "Cast off, get away from this rock
G A Bm
I shall live another day and I curse the hell out of this rock
Em Bm
The Crystalline Cathedral is in the damndest spot!"
G A Bm
And turn to the wind like a hawk

[Verse 2]
Em A Bm
Ideal blade. Ideal lake that bears the stamp of the sun
Em A
Some owners shall rest when their property sleeps
Bm
But for the wicked that day shall never come
Em A Bm
And Dee don't see, that the end of the Sea, is like a needle prophesying the dawn
Em A Bm
And the enemy shakes, and the enemy weeps: who's going to call off this rain?

[Chorus]
G A Bm
They go: "Let us be away from this spot!
G A Bm
This is the blame-taking spot!
Em Bm
This is everybody's got a hole in their heart, and
Em Bm
This is everybody's got a darkness in their gut."
Em Bm
And the whole damn battalion's got to run from this spot
G A Bm
And flee from the black beak of the hawk

[Bridge]
