Em D
And when I'd reached my destination
Em D
I thought someday I might return
Em D
Cause deep inside was the need
Em D
to feel the home fires burn

But a faltering voice merely whispered my name
Em D
as if we'd never expected to hear it again,
Em D
and my heart grew cold to that indifferent sound
Em D Em D
as I slowly laid the receiver down

Em D C
Don't burn the fires,
Don't burn the fires
Don't burn the fires
Em
I'm never coming home
