Craig Campbell

Outskirts Of Heaven

by Craig Campbell
Craig Campbell

Biography:

The Family Man Songfacts says that Georgian native Craig Campbell had already been playing piano at his mother's church since the age of 10 when he formed his band called Out of the Blue. In 2002 Campbell moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he landed a steady gig at The Stage, one of the biggest clubs in the city's famed Lower Broadway and recorded demo sessions for other singers. After meeting and befriending fellow Georgian Luke Bryan, Campbell was persuaded to start writing his own songs.

[Intro]
G, Cadd9, G, Cadd9

[Verse]
G Cadd9
My grandpa taught me about buck knifes and shot guns
G D
And how to cast an old zebco and how to work a stick shift
G Cadd9
He taught me the bible about all 12 disciples
G D
And he made sure that I know there’s life after this
Am Em
With pearly gates and streets of gold
Cadd9 D
He said if I just believe that’s where I’ll go

[Chorus]
G Cadd9 G Cadd9
Lord when I die I wanna live on the outskirts of heaven
G Cadd9 D
Where there’s dirt roads for miles and hay in the fields and fish in the river
Em D Cadd9
Where there’s dogwood trees and honey bees and blue skies and green grass forever
G Cadd9 G Cadd9
So lord when I die, I wanna live on the outskirts of heaven

[Verse]
G Cadd9
Now it says in the King James in the almightys kingdom
G D
He mentions a mansion that he’s built just for me
G Cadd9
Now I’d gladly trade it for a farm house with acreage
G D
And a back yard that’s shaded and a squeaky front porch swing
D
That’s where I wanna hang my wings

[Chorus]
G Cadd9 G Cadd9
When I die I wanna live on the outskirts of heaven
G Cadd9 D
Where there’s dirt roads for miles and hay in the fields and fish in the river
Em D Cadd9
Where there’s dogwood trees and honey bees and blue skies and green grass forever
G Cadd9 G
So lord when I die, I wanna live on the outskirts of heaven. Yes, I do

[Interlude]
F,C,D

[Bridge]
Em D Cadd9
Yeah the good lord knows me he knows I need blue skies and green grass forever

[Outro]
G Cadd9 G Cadd9
Lord when I die I wanna live on the outskirts of heaven
G Cadd9 G Cadd9
Yeah when I die I wanna live on the outskirts of heaven
