O primeiro álbum dos Crash Test Dummies foi um sucesso na sua terra natal, o Canadá, mas teve pouca aceitação nos EUA e na Europa. No entanto, o trabalho seguinte, "God Shuffled His Feet", graças à produção do ex-Talking Head, Jerry Harrison, e ao single "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm", tornou-se num sucesso à escala mundial.
