Eles estouraram nas paradas de todo o mundo com o hit The Promise. O When In Rome, um trio de pop/dance inglês, era formado por Clive Farrington (vocais), Andrew Mann (vocais) e Michael Floreale (teclados). A música tornou-se número 1 na Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play em 1988, tocou nas FMs de todo o mundo e rendeu ao When In Rome contrato para a gravação de um álbum.
Porém, eles não conseguiram repetir a mesma fórmula bem-sucedida e o grupo foi sendo paulatinamente esquecido.
