O Jakes formada em 2004 em Irvine, Califórnia. Após várias mudanças de pessoal, formação do grupo até 2008 consistia de Sameer Gadhia, Tilley Jacob, Hashemian Ehson, Cannata Eric, Comtois François, e Burger Jason. Em dezembro,2009 a banda anunciou que havia mudado seu nome para o Young The Giant
