Durante estes onze anos, os Walkabouts têm desenvolvido uma folk music profundamente humana, muito além de toda a superficialidade americana: música para e sobre as pessoas. Música que mescla a vida, o poder dos cantores de gospel e folk, os antigos compositores americanos e o punk britânico.

Quando Chris Eckman e Carla Torgerson se encontram pela primeira vez, em 1983, Eckman toca canções dos Buzzcocks, com a sua guitarra eléctrica, enquanto Torgerson, toca guitarra acústica, dominado pela folk.
